Using GitHub integration to use a private repo to sync notes. #2792

MiloTodt posted onGitHub

Github just made it so all free users have unlimited private repos. https://techcrunch.com/2019/01/07/github-free-users-now-get-unlimited-private-repositories/

As the target audience for this app is largely developers, they're likely to have an existing github account.

Utilizing a github private repo on the user's account may be a relatively painfree way to sync notes between devices.

This would also allow users to view their notes from a webbrowser as github renders markdown, allowing users to access their notes from devices such as tablets.

I am also actually interested in this feature. For now, I have developed a sync tool myself which syncs boostnotes a private repository in markdown format (one-way). This has a few limitations for now as I've listed in the readme. If you are interested, feel free to check out. https://github.com/dpjayasekara/boostnote-github-sync

I think an easy implementation is to watch the file changes & additions and update the view when external edit happens. This is not implemented in Boostnote AFAIK.

The synchronization itself can be delegated to a third-party app like SparkleShare, which turns Github into a cloud storage.

Yes, i have added the functionality to connect to a github repo and commit, push, pull but I still need to work on the UI as it’s plain rn without a lot of style.
